TL;DR

The cycling section lets you check ride calories burned (MET-based), gear ratio & gear inches, and bike route info in one place.

To know your workload use the calorie calculator, for gear setup use the gear ratio calculator, and to plan a route use bike routes.

Cycling tools & info

How to use

  1. Pick your goal — Choose what you need: calories burned, gear setup, or route planning.
  2. Open a tool — Go to the calorie calculator, the gear ratio calculator, or the bike routes page.
  3. Enter and check — Enter values in each tool or read the route table to plan your ride.

Key cycling metrics at a glance

To fully enjoy a ride, three things help. For training effect, watch calories burned; for efficient pedaling, the gear ratio; and for a safe, fun ride, route info. Compare what each metric tells you in the table below.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How are cycling calories calculated?

Cycling calories are estimated by setting intensity (MET) from your average speed, then using MET x body weight (kg) x time (h). On the cycling calorie calculator page, just enter weight, distance and time and you get average speed and calories burned right away.

What's the difference between gear ratio and gear inches?

Gear ratio is chainring teeth divided by sprocket teeth (e.g. 50/14 ≈ 3.57), the number of rear-wheel turns per pedal revolution. Gear inches multiply that by the wheel diameter (inches), used to compare gears across different wheel sizes. The gear ratio calculator gives both values together.

How long are bike routes covered here?

The routes page lists distances, difficulty and certification centers for major bike paths, so you can compare and plan multi-day or day rides.

How do I get a bike route certification?

At the unmanned red certification booths along each route, stamp your bike-route passport. Completing all sections earns certification medals and certificates such as the Cross-Country certification.
